Kumara began her musical studies at Ecole de Musique Jesus-marie in Levis Quebec. Her first teacher was Audrey Bouliane who
soon realised that Kumara had a talent for singing classical music. Kumara also studied piano. Her last teacher at Jesus -Marie
was Michelle Parent who really
helped her to understand the discipline of classical and operatic singing. Kumara also took private voice lessons with
the soprano Pascale Racine in order to be ready for her audition at the Conservatoire in Apr/2006.
Last year ,2006,Kumara participated in the Canadian Music Competition. She made it through to the Provincial final,
(for the province of Quebec. held in Trois Rivieres on May 21/2006. ) but didn't make it through to the finals. She was competing
in the under 21 age group so all the other singers were 20 and 21. She got a good mark and very postive critiques from the
judges.(http://www.cmcnational.com/ ). Kumara participated in the "Challege " section of the Sillery Prvincial Music
competition for Classical singers. She was the youngest by 2 years, the oldest being 24. She recieved a mark of 85% which
gave her a bronze medal The highest mark was 94 which went to the 24 year old.
In Apr/2--6 Kumara was accepted into the Conservatoire de Musique de Quebec and started the summer/fall semester
in Aug. Her teacher is the well known Canadian soprano Helene Fortin. She studied singing, german, small vocal enesemble and
music theory/ear traing for the first year and will have additional courses starting in her 2 nd year.
der holle racht..aria (Queen of the Night ).from the Magic Flute--Many singers--including Kumara's voice teacher have told
her that she SHOULDN'T be singing this aria--However, she really wanted to learn ,and is in the process off doing so--this
is the result. Kumara realises that this is an extremely difficult piece to sing but it 's an on going labor of love for her--so
she just keeps working at it.
